Weifang International Kite Festival
The folk kites of Weifang City on China’s east coast come in a huge variety – from animals, birds, fish and insects to goddesses and ancient heroes. The annual Weifang International Kite Festival draws kite lovers from around the planet who come to compete. The festival has its roots in China’s Pure Brightness Festival – Qingming Jie – the spring tradition of honoring ancestors, caring for gravesites, and flying kites to send off bad luck.
